The Pond-Moonlight

One of the oldest known photographs - taken in 1904, by Edward Steichen. Hand colored using light sensitive gum in a process known as autochrome. This picture amazes me, its stillness is haunting.
It's dark and it's raining here in Burlington and it's lovely, everything feels muted and full - earthworm weather.

Gorgeous. Never seen it before. Is it public domain?

Totally black metal, too.

Now that I do a little research, I see that this holds the Sotheby's record for most money paid for an original photo. I'm dumb.

Oh well — I never claimed to know anything about the photographic fine art world.

Still think it should be the cover of the Emperor reunion album, if there is one. "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, Part II: The Pond-Moonlight."

if it makes you feel any better, i knew about the selling of the photo for 3million, and i still wondered if it was public domain... Another interesting fact about the photo is that there were, i think, three pictures made, and he hand colored each of them... each a little different than the other. my guess is, if you put them together and layered them over each other, a secret message will emerge.

Light sensitive gum. I smell a confectionary phenomenon.
